May 17 – International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia

Created in 2004, the International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia aims at raising awareness of LGBTQ+ rights violations and stimulate interest in LGBTQ+ rights worldwide.

May 17 was specifically chosen to commemorate the World Health Organization’s decision in 1990 to declassify homosexuality as a mental disorder. Today, more than 130 countries – some of which same-sex acts are still illegal- are celebrating this Day with specific events.
