Sisters, Brothers and Friends,
We want to share an important update regarding the vaccination mandate enforced by the employers.
PSAC recommendation have been not to file grievances for members who refused to get vaccinated for personal choices. GSU, as a component of the PSAC, forwarded this recommendation to our locals.
However, in the last weeks, few decisions have been issued by arbitrators on various COVID vaccination policies. It is very important to understand that such grievance is solely to protect time limits at this stage. We will place the grievance in abeyance pending further discussion with PSAC and upcoming arbitration decisions. Based on previous grievances, we expect a significant delay (minimum of 18 months) before the matter could be heard at adjudication if PSAC accept to refer the grievances. We are stressing affected members to consider all your options including reviewing their decision regarding the vaccination.
Depending on PSAC decision and caselaw developments, we might withdraw representation. Members will be notified in advance with our rational. As a reminder, affected members are entitled to advance this grievance on their own without the union support.
