In keeping with its principles, the GSU has established the Bob Haywood Memorial Bursary to honour a hard-working union activist and a man of great conviction who was committed to improving the world in which we live. The bursary is worth $2,000.

 

This bursary is open to a GSU member in good standing attending part-time or full time post-secondary education.

 

Bursary recipients may not apply for the award a second time.

 

To qualify, you must meet the following requirements:

  • Demonstration of academic proficiency ‘C+’ average or higher.
  • Description of financial needs and/or personal challenges
  • Proof of registration in a full-time or part-time program at a university, college or a recognized institute of higher learning.
  • An essay of 800 words on the topic listed in the bursary package.

 

Must not be reimbursed by the Employer to attend higher learning.

 

The successful candidate will be selected by the GSU Union Recognition Standing Committee.

This committee will review all applications that meet the requirements listed above and are received before the deadline.

The bursary will be awarded based on a combination of academics, financial need and essay.
