Emancipation Day

Jul. 25, 2024

August 1 is Emancipation Day, a time to reflect on the legacy of the enslavement of Black and Indigenous peoples in Canada, celebrate the strength and perseverance of Black communities across the country, and demand an end to ongoing anti-Black racism in Canadian society and in the federal public service.

Join us for a march from the Human Rights monument in Ottawa to the offices of the Privy Council to demand accountability after recent reports detailing anti-Black racism in the highest civil service office. This is a critical moment in the fight against racism in our society.

The GSU Human Rights Committee will be attending the Emancipation Day March, August 1, 2024 at 1145 AM. Please come and join us at 220 Elgin Street Ottawa (Human Rights Monument). For more details see https://actionnetwork.org/events/emancipation-day-march-on-privy-council-office
