The Canadian Labour Congress (CLC), in partnership with the Canadian Anti-Hate Network (experts and researchers on hate groups and movements) has developed a toolkit to equip and empower unions and workers with the information they need to understand the growing issue of hate in our society and provide them with tools and strategies to confront and fight it.
This toolkit, titled “Workers United: An Anti-Hate Toolkit” was informed by a series of consultations with CLC’s Human Rights Advisory Committee, Workers of Colour Working Group, and Solidarity and Pride Working Group, and has also been made possible in part thanks to a contribution from CUPE.
The toolkit was developed to be released in two parts, Part 1, which you will find linked here, is focused on understanding the issue, and includes the following:
• How to identify hate
• What the current landscape of hate movements looks like
• The relationship between hate and conspiracy theories
• Recognizing and countering the tactics hate movements use
• Recognizing and countering mis/disinformation
Part 2, which will be released later in 2025, will help workers and unions take action by implementing:
• Proactive steps and best practices addressing hate
• Strategies for addressing hate on an interpersonal level
• Organizational measures to confront and prevent hate
• Self- and community-care resources
